[00:00:14] Speaker A: What's going on? Ladies and gentlemen, it is the Midwest anime show with your boy d in the building with my man, Mister Conspiracy. We're gonna call this throwback Wednesdays because it's the primetime crew. You know, we got other co hosts, but this is. These are the ogs, the original gangsters for the podcast on the show today. So with that being said, mister conspiracy, how you feeling? Today is just me and you rocking the mic. What's going on in your world, sir? Ready for this? What? I don't believe that there is any explanation for this right here. [00:00:48] Speaker B: You know, since, you know, it's the originals. It's the original ogs, baby. I had to throw that out there, man. Cause they need to know, you know, today's been a great day. Today's podcast day. And the show that we have for y'all is going to be amazing because of the topic. Doc, man, I want to get into this topic, baby. Go ahead and let the people know. [00:01:10] Speaker A: Well, today roundtable is going to be about that time I got reincarnated as a slime. So with that being said, I'm going to let Mister conspiracy have he have his moment to go ahead and tell us about it because I love the show, too. So, I mean, there's a lot to talk about. Go ahead, conspiracy. I. Oh, you know what? Before we typically don't do this, I said it at the end of the show, you know, but, like, subscribe and comment. Now, while this is going on, though, I'm not waiting no more. Trying to get y'all to go ahead and get locked in now. Anyway, mister Conspiracy. Oh, spoiler alerts. If you ain't seen this show at all, I don't know how you missed it, but if you haven't, gonna be a lot of spoilers, so please don't come for us in the comments. We ruined something for you that's been out for years. That's not our fault. We blame you. So anyway, conspiracy, what you got for us, man? [00:02:02] Speaker B: I'm ruining everything. Hopefully, you beat maker. I'm ruining everything. I'm going to go that deep. But that time I got reincarnated as a slime is probably in my top three when it comes to anime. Started off as a web novel, then went to a light novel, and then became a manga and then an anime. Long story short for the actual summary, it actually starts off with the regular human. His name is, uh, I think it's Mikami Saruto, I believe is how you pronounce that. And so he's basically a 37 year old salesman, and he is, his life is ran, and he's bullied by everyone in his life, talking from regular citizens on the street, random strangers to his co workers, to his boss. And one night, his boss forces him to take over all of his work. And he works really late at night. I think he gets out of there around, like, 03:00 a.m. in the morning. When he comes out, he sees someone actually being attacked and being robbed. He decides out of nowhere, he's a shut in. He doesn't do anything but work, so he doesn't go to the gym, anything like that. He decides, oh, man, I'm going to play hero. He decides to help this person out, and what ends up happening is that the robber ends up stabbing him, and he dies. And he wakes up, and he gets reincarnated into this, this fantasy world, and he gets reincarnated as a slime. When he first gets reincarnated, he can't speak. He can only think. He can't speak or anything. He doesn't have any vocal cords, anything like, they don't have. He didn't have a vocal box, so he can only think telepathically, and he has no abilities. He's just a slime. And then he realizes what actually happened to him, and so he's just bouncing around, moving along, trying to figure out what he's going to do as a slime in this world. Well, that's when his adventure actually starts. He's in this place. I forgot the actual name of the forest, but it's basically the forest of the legendary dragon Veldora. And no one enters this domain because it's under the protection of the legendary dragon velder. Well, Vedra is actually trapped in this seal within the forest. No one knows this. He's inside of this cave, trapped in the seal. No one knows that he's actually trapped or how long he's gonna live, anything like that. They just know that he's still alive because all of his energy and aura can be filled throughout the forest. Once you enter his domain, well, the slime has no idea what's going on. He answers the cave, and he realizes, oh, there's a bunch of monsters. I have to be able to protect myself. He realizes then he has the ability to basically eat monsters and take over their abilities and their attributes and their characteristics. So he does this, and he gains ability every time he fights, and then he gets a new ability, and eventually he eats a bat, and he gets a sound wave vocal box that allows him to be able to actually speak and talk now. And long story short, he actually meets Velder of the dragon in the seal. They have a long conversation. They become basically best friends. And that's how he gains the name Rimuru Tempest, because the dragon names him. And that's when he gained the abilities of a true, not a legendary monster, but like an, a monster. Like if the dragons that SS class, then Rimuru becomes like an A class in the beginning when the dragon names him. The special ability of monsters have actually, other people have it too. If you're strong enough, if you name a monster or name someone that doesn't have a name and you name them and you're stronger than them, then they, you can basically grant them power and abilities. So what ends up happening is that he ends up learning what's going on in the forest, not so much the work. And he wants to basically understand and get to know how the world works. And he wants to be able to live properly as a slime. And his adventure starts and he comes along and he runs into this. [00:06:16] Speaker A: Yeah, I think you, I think you bypassed an important, important part. [00:06:21] Speaker B: I want to give you a chance to, you know, go ahead and fill in some gaps. [00:06:25] Speaker A: No, no, no, I'll get there. You'll say, go ahead. No, go ahead. Because I think it's an important thing that he used. The one skill he has is the predator skill. [00:06:34] Speaker B: That's what I said. [00:06:36] Speaker A: And it allowed him to take, eat the storm dragon until his. What is it called? Yeah, because, yeah, because the storm dragon was like, he's like, hey, because of my skill. Raphael. It's not Raphael. At the beginning, that's. [00:06:53] Speaker B: No, not at the beginning. [00:06:54] Speaker A: I think it's just, I forget what it's called, but basically tells him, hey, if we basically keep him in your stomach, in this parallel world, inside your stomach, I'll be able to work on breaking the seal. That's all I wanted to say. [00:07:07] Speaker B: I just wanted people to watch the show, man. I didn't want to give away all the Easter eggs, brother. You know, listen, they should be watching. [00:07:14] Speaker A: The show regardless, regardless of what we say. [00:07:18] Speaker B: So the story picks up when he runs into the goblins who are being hunted down by these wolves. And so what transpires that he, he saves the goblin village. And that's when his true adventure begins. He becomes the leader of the goblin village. And then he starts to basically grow the village. And when he takes on new adventures, he meets new, new creatures. His village starts to grow, expand and develop. And then he goes on more journeys. And that's where the story really takes off. So for people who are watching it start reading the manga, um, it goes really, really deep. Hopefully they get to the end. It is very amazing. We will get to a couple of that, um, more information about that later, but I want DLC to go ahead and give his take on that, man. [00:08:07] Speaker A: I have to say, it's, uh, at first, when I heard the title of this, I thought it was so stupid because, you know, we got a lot of isekais where they're reincarnating. I mean, and this is before, like, people reincarnating as bath water vending machines. Spiders. [00:08:26] Speaker B: Pigs. [00:08:27] Speaker A: Pigs. Yeah, all kind of fish. Yeah, all kind of weird stuff. Like, this was the first time I was like, you got isekai, something other than a human. And I was like, what is? Because every time they perpetrate slime and manga, they're like, they're either super op because they got these skills you can't imagine, or they're really crappy and they can be beat by you kicking them. Depends on what manga you're looking at. So it's like two extremes. So this happens to follow before they got those extremes. I think this is the reason why they got those extremes, because his slime ability at first is just like, oh, the predator skill. But then when you see he can mimic and he gains their abilities, then it's like, oh, man. Well, you got the ultimate cheat skill, that predator skill. And so I would say, like, it's a very unique isekai in the way where you got a dude who goes from a, you know, like you said, basically a corporate slave to basically, he basically ends up running a town, you know, and tries to live a peaceful life. And he doesn't want to. He doesn't want to fight with humans. He doesn't want to be in conflict with humans. He, because he was formerly a human, so he wants to coexist with monsters and humans, you know, and he's trying to live out. I mean, I guess the best way I think of him is, you know, for this particular manga or anime, he's basically like Professor X. I mean, I mean, in all reality, he's basically like Professor X where he's like, listen, we can coexist. We don't have to fight with each other. You know, we can exist. And I think that's the cool part because usually when they're super op, they're usually super cocky or they're not very cocky at all. He actually understands how strong he is and he doesn't hesitate. If he has to be, you know, real terrible to people, he'll do it, you know, or if he needs to show somebody mercy. And I think he's the best of both worlds because I hate that the protagonist, who's all. Who's super op, but he's like, oh, I'm so humble. I don't, you know, no, I'm not gonna do that. And, you know, I really don't like that version of the protagonist. I like the protagonist like him, who's like, yeah, I got this power. I'm just trying to live. [00:10:40] Speaker B: And people keep. [00:10:41] Speaker A: Stuff keeps happening that causes me to have to do things that I don't necessarily want to have to do, you know? And I guess that's what it's like. It's almost like a slice of a good life mixed in with an Isekai, mixed in with a comedy and a fantasy novel, all thrown together with a very unique spin on it. So I can definitely say it is definitely a top five anime for me. Top five manga just because of the way the story goes. I mean, it has its moments where it's silly. You can get to it, but it's got some real serious moments, too in there. You like. Oh, my goodness. So I can definitely say it's a fan favorite. I mean, it's definitely a favorite for mine. I hope we can get some more seasons out of it before it hits the end. But I. You know how, depending on how they go, if they don't keep dragging us to that twelve episodes, they might try and get 15 seasons out of us as slow as they moving sometimes, so. And then the fillers. But I mean, overall, phenomenal anime. I think, you know, anybody, it's even a good starter anime if you're not familiar with it. It's not too wild, not too crazy. Your kid can watch most of this for the most part. There's some things I would say they probably don't need to watch, but overall, pretty good. Pretty good anime, at least for me. So let me. Let me ask you this, mister conspiracy. Like, the important question is to you, what is it about this particular manga anime that you love the most? Like, what is the one thing that you can say, oh, man, this is why I can enjoy this, you know. [00:12:14] Speaker B: It'S unique for a lot of things. What you said, DLC. It is unique. How the izakais when it comes to reincarnation, because he didn't come back op ed. Right. Also, he was not timid for long. He basically started understanding how the world worked. Now he had to work through some things, but his development wasn't slow, but it wasn't too fast either. And it made sense how he got his abilities on, how powerful he became and why he became so powerful. And they made it stickingly clear what his objectives and his goals were when it came to his enemies, how he wanted to live. Like you already pointed out, he wanted to live peacefully amongst monsters and humans. And one thing that is behind the scenes that we haven't actually brought up yet are the people who everyone doesn't really understand, who's actually pulling strings, which are the most deadliest of the races, which are really not a race, but the most powerful beings, which are demon lords. They are the top of the top. You might as well call them the council or the table. Now, the. The holy Church of the humans have their own unique team that they really have not brought in the strong ones yet. Hinata is the only holy soldier that they have truly shown that can battle a demon lord. But she's actually not the strongest. There are a couple above her that they have not shown yet in the anime that you can find out about in the manga. And so they have characters that can go head to head with demon Lord. I'll be honest with you, demon lords are not even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the strongest. There's a whole other avenue. But I'm not gonna go too deep into the manga, you know, because a lot of people probably haven't read that or have done their research when it comes to that. So I'm not gonna go that deep into it. We want to stick to basically what's happening in the anime. Their storytelling is amazing. They develop each side character to where you love him. Like, for instance, one of my favorite characters is Gabor. He is a lizard man that kicked. He tried to overthrow his clansmen, who. His father's the king lizard man. He tried to overthrow his father, failed in the end, and got saved by Rimuru from the Lord, and then begged Rimuru, please, please let me be part of your village. And he let him be part of it. And the great thing about Gabor is that he has loyal followers. Things like five of them dudes, man, five living man, no matter what. And when they get to shouting, God. [00:15:15] Speaker A: Bear. [00:15:18] Speaker B: Motion, it's those developments of the side characters that they really develop and they give key importance to. And the storytelling that they give to the side characters along with the main character, I think really sets it apart. [00:15:39] Speaker A: So I can definitely say my favorite thing. And to me, what is the storytelling is so good, right. It's a blend of everything I said previously. And they do it well. Like, everybody doesn't develop characters well, right. You know, in stories, not everybody does it really well, but they did a good job of giving you not too slow, like you said, not too fast. You know, the main character is cool, but we learned, like, one of my favorite characters is Benny Maru. You know, Benny Marvel's hilarious to me, especially, like, the ongoing thing about she owns cooking, you know, like, and everybody, that's a great. It's great comedy, you know, for the show. So, I mean, that's one of my favorite things. But I gotta ask you, what is your favorite moment in the show? What is. What is your favorite moment? [00:16:36] Speaker B: My favorite moments that I can watch. There's a lot of moments that I love. My favorite moment is when they got away from the comedy and Rimuru had to go to the human army's military base because a lot of people don't know about Ben Hamaroo and his clan. Well, a lot of his clan got massacred. And there was only, I think it was five of them left. She owned soul, his little sister and Hauna Robbie. [00:17:18] Speaker A: Yeah, yeah. Karabi, xiong, Hakaru. So a and Benny Maru. Yeah. Those are the only ones from that clan that's. [00:17:28] Speaker B: And so. So when she own. Who is. Rimuru's basically his secretary. She's been his secretary and his bodyguard since they showed up in the village, basically. And at this point, the story has gone on for a while. So they've grown up like a really tight knit bond. The he was away and the humans attacked. So what actually transpired was that Sheon and half the village was killed. When he came back, he blamed himself. He went into such a despair, just, just into a dark hole, and they barely was able to bring him out of it. And when he came back, he realized that, okay, I can no longer be Professor X and protect my people, because even though I used to be a human, I am a monster in this world, period. Now he started to turn more into Magneto. It was almost like now he's wearing like two different faces. He doesn't want to get away from the face of Professor X. But it's like, I have to understand, though, that I am a monster and humans hate us. So there's going to be times I'm going to have to put people down. I'm going to have to draw that line. And he starts toting the line of Magneto in my opinion, you know, saying that my race comes first, which now his race is monsters. And they attacked my home. They killed my people. They are not going to get away with this. When he went into that military base and he started dropping them, he started dropping soldiers like flies. No remorse, no nothing. He had on his little mask to hide his aura. And they thought they was bad. He was dropping them dudes like flies. And when the king came out, the king was trying to talk to him. And what he said, he said something basically letting him know, hey, I'm the king and you're not going to treat me this way. He shot his arm off immediately. And then he told him, I don't think you understand the situation you in and who I am. That moment set it all for me. Oh, they can do comedy. It's great when they do comedy. I love it. It's funny. But when they get real, oh, it gets really real, you know, and for me, that right there set the tone moving forward of what they're going to basically do in the manga, in the anime, hopefully going forward because it gets more serious. Things get a lot more, you know, hardcore when it comes to the manga. But that right there set the tone saying that, hey, we're not going to pull punches. That's what I got from it, right? We're not going to pull punches and we're going to give the audience what they want. That was my part right there. [00:20:39] Speaker A: Oh, yeah. That. That moment is pretty unique because he goes from pacifist, like you said, and then he realized, like, even a king gotta make bad choices sometimes that, you know, you, you might not want to do, but they forced his hand. But like I said, dude, it was a, that wasn't a fight. That wasn't a battle, that was a massacre. And that. That was, if he wasn't a monster, I would. I mean, I'd say that genocide, because the uniform, like he kid, he killed. I mean, to get and keep in mind, to save his friend, he had to kill 10,000 humans to pull. To pull that off. And he got to a point where the half that didn't die in the initial 1 minute of destruction, the rest of them perished because he got a new ability that they were, they had lost, they will to fight. So their souls got vanquished in that moment up to here. It was like, God, Lee, I'm gonna tell you, that was a very pivotal moment because again, you're the kind of, I want to live peacefully protagonist. And then you go, hold up, we didn't do nothing. To y'all, what's causing this beef? And then when you find out it's all set up. They were all set up, and it had nothing to do with nothing. And he's like, oh, no, we got to go put them down. You know, whole army gone. Whole army and the king are gone. And then my favorite. My favorite moment in that is when Hakura Hakura and that one dude fight. Like, that one dude, like, oh, I'm better than you, old man. You know, because he can slow down, and he thought he was somebody super special. And I grew like, man, you're not special, dude. You're not. You know, and you have to see the fight. I don't. I mean, the only thing I'm gonna give away is it's like, you go, that dude wished he used his powers differently because he died a very slow, terrible death because of his powers, you know, I mean, and it was. It was crazy. Like, the fights were nuts. Like. Like that whole. Like, that whole fight going in there. I mean, I like the fights with everybody else. Like, what remaru did was. That was slaughter. Yeah, he just slaughtered those people. But the other people who were fighting, you know, I think one of my other favorite moments out of that battle is once he gets enough souls and he starts to shift back into Islam form, and then the demon shows up that he called, right? And the demon, he's like, yeah, when Diazo shows up, and he's like, listen, you know what? Go get the king. Go get this. There's somebody else here, you know, go pick them up or whatever. And the dude, you know, thinks, oh, man, I'm about to kill this demon, or whatever. And Diablo's like, you. You. He's like, no, sir, you're not beating me. He said, you too young. He got an angel. He's like, hey, angel ain't gonna do nothing to me, man. It's like, it's nothing. And you find out this dude got one of the most powerful demons ever. You know, Diablo, you know, is one of, like. I mean, he's like a primordial demon, and, you know, this dude serves him, and he's happy to serve him, but, my God, the fight was just insane because it was like, dude, you're not even in the realm. Because I'm thinking if this demon is serving him, like, how much more powerful is Rimari? Because Diablo is like, you know, we getting the biscuits in the tea out, and we about to go do some damage to some folks. And it was crazy. Like, that dude had been around because he's got a technique that allows him to transfer his soul into other people's bodies. And Diablo's like, man, you're not going nowhere, bro. Like, you're not. Like, there's nothing you can do against me. And that dude, he didn't understand it till he got to the end, and then the dude passed out. After he realized who he was fighting, it was like, oh, my God, I. This is beyond what I'm gonna do. So there's a whole lot of, you know, lead ups, and there's a whole lot of moments I really love from that battle, because, like you said, it establishes a couple of things going forward. And I think that was really cool, man. But I definitely gotta ask you, what's your favorite fight scene? I know we can't talk about that because that was a slaughter. So I wouldn't even call that a fight, but what's your actual favorite fight? [00:24:49] Speaker B: Favorite fight? Uh. Oh, man, that's a. That's a toughie. I ain't gonna lie. You know what my favorite fight is? When. Cause this wasn't really, like, a fight fight, okay. When Gabor first came to the village and he wanted to challenge Rimuru. Oh, I think it was she owned who actually pushed gobble toe. And Fred said, no, no, it was Benny Hamaroo. He pushed the front, said, you beat him, then we'll follow you. Gabriel said, oh, man, I'm gonna kill him. And next thing you know, he went try to strike him with his spear or his Triton. Gabato came around because he has this. He has this shadow techniques, thanks to his wolf contract. So he goes into Gaboros. Shadow comes out from behind and drop kicks him right the back of the deck. All you see is Gabor go, and he falls down and passes out. That is my favorite fight. Just because of the comedy behind it. [00:26:08] Speaker A: I can definitely say my favorite fight was when Rimuru fought the Orc lord. [00:26:15] Speaker B: Okay. [00:26:17] Speaker A: And at this point, to kind of sum it all up, the orcs basically were manipulated by Majin, who was manipulated by demon king. Well, not manipulated, but told by demon king to go out, basically, and find strong monsters, you know, basically, and give them names, because names give them power. So, you know, they go out. And the orcs ended up killing all of the onis, or whatever you call their. Their people, that. The only five were left. And then when they go fight them, you know, everything's all good, you know, until he starts eating his own people because of that devour thing to give him more power, whatever. Because he couldn't be. He couldn't beat Rimuru. But what I loved about the fight was is that he let the sage. That's what it's called, sage. Before it was Raphael, the sage kick in and do the fighting for him. And they thought it was, like, cool sage going hard. And then it was like, oh, you know, rumor was, like, I figured this was gonna happen. And then it came down to devourer versus predator. And he was like, you know, my, you know, we'll see if my predator devours you for it. Unfortunately for the Orc King, he didn't have a chance because that dude's predator was just eating his whole body. And every time he grabbed a piece of slime, it turned into acid and it was burning him, and it was nothing he could do. I mean, it was like you're fighting against fate. I mean, and the lead up to the fight, you got all these armies banging. You got the oni's out here, you know? Cause they leveled up and they're massacring everybody. But that fight between him and the Orc lord was just, like, nuts because even after he cut his head off, the dude was like, I came back on. Like, the only way he killing me is by devouring me, you know? So it was. That was one of my favorite fights. I mean, I can. I can honestly say that, like, throughout the series, I really. I really enjoyed that fight because it also lets you see the power of his predator. We knew his predator could do things because we knew it. You know, it could basically, like, we know what it did to veldor putting them in that parallel space. But to use predator like that to actually consume somebody where it wasn't like, I'm keeping you in a parallel space, I'm actually consuming you. You know what I mean? That was. That was pretty. That was pretty cool. Plus, I think as you go forward in the story, because of predator, who was that? The. The. It wasn't a demon or whatever. Who was in. She owned the chick that she owned, but the one she had, that fire demon, that. That demon lord you talking about, Shizuku? Yes. She's ill free when he stuck in his stomach and he's like, what? And then he sees, like, what you doing? Like, you ain't about to do nothing in here. He's like, hey, man, you gonna play this game with me? Because I'm bored. And, dude, like, what? And he stuck in eternity with him playing this game. [00:29:09] Speaker B: He hate. [00:29:09] Speaker A: Like, it was funny, man. Bunch of. It was a bunch of comedy, but that was definitely my favorite fight. [00:29:15] Speaker B: Hey, Dio said give me 1 second, brother. Give me one moment. [00:29:19] Speaker A: Nah, nah, it's okay, Mandy. It's all good. Thank God for. [00:29:24] Speaker B: Go ahead and let the people know a few things, man. About to give me 1 second. I'll be. I'll be right back. [00:29:29] Speaker A: No, it's all good now. Step out for a second anyway, with my people. So I think there's a lot of other elements in here. I mean, we're giving you a general, very generalized story of the time. I got reincarnated as a slime, but it's. I think it's got. I think it's two seasons, maybe three at this point. So, you know, start off slow. I mean, you know, if you. If you like me, you just read the manga because you just like being ahead. But the anime, the voices, even the dub is good to me as well as the sub. Not always does that happen. But in this scenario, it actually ended up working out well for both of them. But it overall, like, I don't think you go wrong with the anime again, character developments there. Um, Rimuru at some point will become op, but it's not like he started out op to Mister Conspiracy's point. So, you know, over time he gets stronger and stronger. But to me that's how it should be, you know, not like a dragon Ball Z where no matter what they come up against, they gonna find a way to power up and go to a new level. It not necessarily this. Anytime Rimuru has gotten stronger, it's not because he wants to fight. It's always been because he's had to. You know, he's come under into a circumstance. I mean, with the time when she own was killed, he didn't want to become a demon lord. He didn't want to do that. But he was forced to do it to save the people in the village's life. So each time he's leveled up, and I think that's, to me, that's the biggest difference is if you look at something like Dragon Ball Z, wherever they're just battle. Goku's a battle. Him and Vegeta are battle junkies. So they're always looking for the next high to get to the next level. Versus Rimuru's trying to live a peaceful life. And every level up he's had to have was because circumstances forced him to do it. So I think that's something, you know, people could definitely get behind as him as a character. And the other cool thing is, is not all the humans are crazy terrible. I mean, don't get me wrong, I think, I mean, there's some terrible ones in there, but to Mister Conspiracy's point, there are a lot of characters that you haven't seen yet who are very powerful, you know, and if you ran into them in the beginning, you know, they wipe the floor with everybody. But, you know, the humans in this story, I mean, I'm not going to say they're not powerful, but they're not like op. And the other, one of the other things is you got so many races. Like the dwarves, for instance, have their own kingdom. The dwarves have their own kingdom, you know, and they do businesses with humans. And I mean, reamers probably exception where they doing business with a monster. I mean. But again, there's a lot you can get from the story behind, like the relationships between humans, demons, the monsters, you know, because you got the goblin. I mean, so there is so much in this story that can be expanded. The manga gives you a bigger, a bigger picture of the whole world in general. But I mean, there's so many places the story can go and I mean, it's one of those anime you can just keep watching over and over again, at least in my opinion. But for you folks in the comments, I mean, you can put, put a one, if you think this is in your top ten list, you know, or even your top five list, you know, put a one out there and give me a zero if you don't think this show is even worth that much time, you know, I think we're waiting on the new season to drop. I hope with everything that's going on, we'll get it sometime either in late 2024, early 2025, either way. But I think one of the other cool thing is, is when you get to meet the rest of the demon lords and you kind of see like, who's really behind the strings, who's really pulling everything. There's a lot you can gather from that as well. So. And Veldora, when he actually gets out of his prison, yeah, it gets a little wild there, but for sure, I mean, it's a lot you can definitely get from the series.
